Saving Teeth

Gentle, Microscope-Guided Endodontic Therapy

When tooth decay reaches the inner dental pulp (containing nerves and blood vessels), it causes intense, throbbing toothaches and can lead to abscesses. A root canal treatment is designed to eliminate the infection, relieve pain, and save the natural tooth, avoiding the need for extraction.

Historically feared, root canal treatments at Zen Smiles Dental are highly comfortable and completely painless. We administer deep local dental blocks first. Using **high-magnification dental microscopes**, we locate and clean the tiny, complex root canals thoroughly. Once disinfected, we seal the canals with a biocompatible material and restore the tooth with a core build-up. We recommend fitting a ceramic crown over the treated tooth afterwards to restore its structural strength.

Clinical Journey

The Treatment Procedure

We combine advanced microscopic cleaning with therapeutic disinfection to rescue compromised tooth nerves.

01

Access & Insulation

The tooth is numbed completely and isolated using a sterile rubber dam sheet. This blocks saliva contamination and protects your airways.

02

Microscope Cleaning

Under the dental microscope, the dentist accesses the pulp chamber and removes infected nerve tissue using specialized files.

03

Canal Disinfection

We flush the canals with antibacterial irrigation solutions to eliminate bacteria from microscopic canal branches.

04

Sealing & Restoration

The empty canals are packed tightly with gutta-percha sealant. The access cavity is then filled with a composite restoration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about root canal therapy.

Does a root canal treatment hurt?
No. Root canal treatment does not cause pain; it *relieves* pain. We use highly effective local anesthetics to completely numb the tooth before we begin, so you will feel no discomfort. Most patients describe it as feeling similar to getting a standard dental filling.
How many visits are required for a root canal?
Most root canal treatments can be completed in 1 to 2 visits, depending on the severity of the infection and the complexity of the tooth's anatomy (front teeth have 1 canal, while back molars can have 3 to 4 canals).
Why does a root canal tooth need a crown afterwards?
Once the pulp and blood vessels are removed, the tooth loses its moisture supply and becomes brittle over time. Under heavy biting forces, a brittle tooth is prone to splitting or fracturing. Placing a ceramic crown encases the tooth fully, protecting it from fractures and ensuring it functions safely for years.
What is the alternative to a root canal?
The only alternative is extracting (pulling) the tooth. However, keeping your natural tooth is always the best option. Extracting the tooth requires replacing it with an implant or bridge to prevent neighboring teeth from shifting and preserve your chewing efficiency.
